Summary

Supporting the modernization and transformation of Armenian agriculture through large-scale investment in efficient almond production, modern agricultural infrastructure, advanced farming practices and the diversification of export markets.

Since 2017, the Izmirlian family has invested in the development of Armenia’s agricultural sector, recognizing the important role of agriculture in creating economic opportunities and strengthening livelihoods in rural communities.

Located in the Vanand community of Armenia’s Armavir region, the project has brought 837 hectares of previously unused but fertile land back into productive use through the establishment of almond orchards, modern and efficient irrigation infrastructure, and the introduction of advanced agricultural methods.

The project generates employment and income opportunities in rural Armenia, including for vulnerable communities. It currently employs more than 70 people, 88% of whom live outside Yerevan, predominantly in villages of the Armavir region.

Vanand Agro also seeks to promote responsible employment practices in Armenia’s agricultural sector, including equal pay for equal work, compliance with minimum-wage and working-hour requirements, safe working conditions, appropriate minimum-age standards and timely payment of wages, etc.

By expanding the domestic production of a high-value agricultural crop, the project also contributes to strengthening Armenia’s agricultural capacity, improving food security and developing a more productive, competitive and sustainable agricultural sector.
