Advancing Armenia’s Sustainable Development through a Robust and Safe AI and Digital Ecosystem

Artificial Intelligence Education and Ecosystem
- With the support of the Izmirlian Foundation, six high school students enrolled in a three-year program in artificial intelligence and advanced mathematics, while four teachers enhanced their expertise through targeted capacity-building. This initiative is part of the large-scale “AI Generation” project led by the Foundation for Armenian Science and Technology in partnership with the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sports of Armenia. A dedicated curriculum was developed and officially approved, establishing a strong foundation for systematic education in these cutting-edge fields.
- Launched in January 2026 by reArmenia Academy with the support of the Izmirlian Foundation, the “AI Empowerment Ecosystem in Armenia” initiative aims to position Armenia as a leading hub for AI development and export. The program promotes widespread AI literacy reaching hundreds of thousands annually, while building localized expertise and offering consulting services for individuals and organizations. By integrating education, consulting, and automation, the initiative sets common standards and supports workforce upskilling. Accelerated adoption and effective application of AI are expected to address systemic inefficiencies and unlock growth across nearly all sectors of the Armenian economy.
Armenian Language and the Digital Ecosystem
- The Izmirlian Foundation supports the development of standardized Armenian language proficiency levels (A1–C2), along with a comprehensive system for learning, testing, and evaluation tailored to non-native speakers. This initiative is implemented in collaboration with the Language Committee of the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sports of Armenia.
- Through the project “Armenian as a Viable Language in the Technological World,” launched in September 2025 in partnership with the Ministry, the Foundation advances the inclusion of Armenian in digital and technological environments. In the medium term, the project enhances the automated processing of Armenian-language content. In the long term, it promotes the language’s digital viability and competitiveness, while fostering an institutional ecosystem for language technologies. The initiative contributes to Armenia’s broader digital transformation strategy, including the development of national standards and tools for language processing, the creation of a specialized electronic dictionary and thesaurus, and the advancement of human capital in digital humanities.

Online Safety of Children
In partnership with UNICEF, the Ministry of High-Tech Industry of Armenia, and the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sport of Armenia, the Izmirlian Foundation co-finances the initiative “Pathway Forward: Protecting Children from Online Risks and Harms.” This forward-looking program is dedicated to reducing the exposure of children and adolescents in Armenia to the growing risks of the digital environment, while fostering a safer, more resilient online ecosystem.
At its core, the initiative advances three strategic priorities:
- Strengthening the Legal and Policy Framework. The project supports the Government in shaping and adopting comprehensive legal and regulatory frameworks that safeguard children online. This includes the development of strategic documents, action plans, legislation, and standards governing digital safety – ranging from age-appropriate internet services and social media access to the responsible use of digital tools in educational settings.
- Empowering Society. Through Awareness and Education, the initiative works to elevate public awareness of online risks while equipping children, parents, educators, and civil society with the knowledge and skills needed to navigate the digital world safely. Through targeted capacity-building and parenting programs, the initiative fosters stronger connections between children and trusted adults as well as among peers.
- Expanding Access to Protection and Support Services. In collaboration with specialized civil society partners, we strengthen and promote accessible hotline and helpline services. These platforms provide adolescents and their families with guidance on safe internet use and offer a secure, confidential channel to report concerns and seek assistance.
